The Best High Street / Drugstore Mascaras

Mascara is the one beauty tool most, if not every, girls will have purchased at some time during her life. It does wonders for your eyes, making them looks bigger, darkening, thickening and lengthening the eyelashes. Nowadays with the wide variety of claims drugstore brands throw at you such as 'extra lengthening' 'false lash effect' and 'mega volume' it can be hard to find the perfect mascara that does what it says on the tin (or tube in this case).

After years of trail and error, buying into the hype of Maybelline's Great Lash mascara as a teen to YSL's Babydoll mascara based on Gok Wans recommendation, it has lead me to my current two favourite mascaras.

L'oreal False Lash Architect 4D  in Waterproof Black.
Their Claim
Their new 4D formula (4D lashes...is that even possible?) builds up lashes, moulding, reshaping and sculpting without hardening or stiffening. Lashes look volumised, lengthened, texturised and curved with a clump free brush.

Length & Volume
This mascara definitely add some length to your lashes, it's amazeballs. It separated the lashes out, coating every single one to the point it almost looks like the perfect and evenly fanned out lashes you see on the adverts. As for volume, it does add volume for sure but not in the sense of 'wow volume'. It's more of a natural coverage that evens out lashes, coating them all individual making them all point in the same direction.
Longevity
It stays put, and doesn't even budge when swimming etc. It doesn't smudge or flake throughout the day, even in hot weathers. The only bad thing about this is it can be kind hard to get off at night, but hey all in the name of beauty right? That or my eye makeup remover is poo.

Brush
The brush is great at getting into the corners of your eyes, its quite small and is slightly angled. It can get to all the lashes easily and bristles are spaces out so the formula can be applied evenly (relating back to my length & volume point). There are no clumps at all and lashes don't stick to each other.
General Cons:
I also have this mascara in non-waterproof (picked it up accidentally thinking it was waterproof). The longevity is not so good and doesn't keep my artificially curled lashes curled (as with every other non-waterproof mascara I have tried).

Max Factor's False Lash Effect in Waterproof Black
Their Claim
Volumises lashes from root to tip creating a false lash effect and never-ending volume and glamour.

Length & Volume
The main claim is that it creates volume and it does. It coats every single lash lifting, defining and providing volume and length (a little bit more than L'oreal).  The only ways it falls down to L'oreals False Lash Architect is separating the lashes. It separates the lashes but in my opinion not as well as L'oreals False Lash Architect.

Longevity
It doesn't flake or run in the slightest and stays put for the whole day so there are no annoying black smudge marks around your eyes. Again, for the same as the L'oreal mascara (maybe even more so), it's in pain in the butt to get off! you'll be scrubbing at your eyes for a good few days after wearing it.
Brush
The brush is a lot bigger than the L'oreal one which may be one reason why it provides more volume. The bristles are evenly spaces out reaching every lash but sometimes I find clumps towards the end but they are easy to avoid.

General Cons
The formular can dry out in the tube towards the end and one of the hardest mascaras to get off!
My Overall Consensus
Both in my option are two of the best drugstore mascaras out there. I general tend to sway towards L'oreals False Lash Architect for day to day use due to the fact that it's more natural and easier to get off. However, I love Max Factors False Lash Effect, as you can see by the packaging, but mostly for nights out or days where I really want my eyes to pop.

What are your options on these marcasras? or perhaps you have your own favourite?
I would love to hear about it.

Until next time
x
