How To Care For Natural Curly Hair

Having curly hair can be quite tough at times, especially when you don't know how to care for it. I was once that girl. I use to hate my 'curly' hair (I don't know if curly is the right word, more of a poof) and ended up straightening it nearly every day because frankly that was the only way I could keep it under control, not forgetting to mention wanting to fit in at school, ginger AND curly doesn't exactly go down well.

Over time, especially in the last year, I have come to love my curly hair thinking I was absolutely bonkers for straightening it. Curly hair is amazing and I really want to help girls who are possibly in the same situation I was.

A lot of curly haired girls take care of their hair as straight haired girls do, but curly hair is structured completely different and needs a little more TLC.

Here are some tips on how I achieve my bouncy curls:

Find a shampoo and conditioner that work for you! Also, conditioner is curly hairs best friend. Aussie Miracle Moist (ahh hate that word!) is doing it for me and as you can see the conditioner bottle is just a bit bigger than the shampoo for all that conditioning imma be doing.

I started using this shampoo simply because it smells amazing the moisture is just a bonus. Personally I find it the best shampoo/conditioner I have used for my hair, it moistures and makes the curls look really shiny and healthy.

Ohhh also, biggest tip for keeping fizz at bay, do not, I repeat, do not towel dry your hair! Pat it with a towel or use an old t-shirt.

After washing my hair I looks for any lose strands/frizz and curl them by just twisting it around my finger. I then flip my head upside-down and scrunch in these two products, Charles Worthington Curl Definer Mousse to add some bounce and Aveda Be Curly to hold the curls and either let it naturally dry and defuse dry it if I'm in a rush.

Try not to use too much heat on your hair!

Just to refresh my curls I use Umberto Giannini Curl Friends, Natural Curls Styling Spray. This just gives then a refreshed look after a nights sleep.

Curly hair makes me go cray cray!

  4. I have curly hair. I would recommend using a deep conditioner after shampoo and wrap in a plastic bag for really deep conditioning. Nice Blog!

  5. Your hair is just like my best friend's; curly and the same gorgeous shade of ginger. She went through a stage of always straightening it too, but now embraces the curl. I'm jealous of both of you, I'd love to have all that hair!
