Day 4
On day 4 we took on the 100 mile road up to Key West stopping off a places of interest on the way. The first place we stopped was Bob's Buns for some brunch. As we walked in we realised that they already had halloween decorations up, it was the beginning of September! I had waffles with strawberries and walnuts - delicious! We then made our way down to Islamorada where we found Robbie's Marina to do a spot of canoeing. Through a bridge and over some flats we came across an historic island Indian Key which apparently use to have around 40 people living on hundreds of years ago but an explosion killed them off and now it is supposedly haunted. After, we paddled around some mangrove looking out for manatees, but again they let us down. They also had absolutely massive fish which you could feels $1 per bucket. From there we devoured Florida Keys signature pie, key lime pie and headed off to make it to Key West by night fall.
Seven Mile Bridge
Day 5
Waking up in Key West. We only had a short amount of time to spend here as we had to get back on the road, time was running out! We first went to see the southernmost point of continental USA - 90 miles from Cuba. It was cool just to see it. We also bumped into the 0 mile marker! Yes! After wondering around Key West, we were back on the road looking forwards to our next stop off at Bahia Honda State Park. It was wow! By far the most becauiful beach I have ever seen/been to. We did a bit of snorkelling, swimming and selfie taking. We didn't plan to but we pretty much spent the whole day there is was so beautiful. There was also access to the old bridge so we went up there for a gander and the views were amazing! Just before we got into Key Largo we wanted to stretch our legs to we jumped at the chance to do a bit of paddle boarding at Curley's Marina which was so much fun but a strain on our feet. We Paddled over a big bit of debris were a shark around 5 feet was swimming around - we soon got out of there. Again there were warning signs of manatees but again they didn't make an appearance.
Day 6
The Everglades! Our day at the Everglades was somewhat different to the previous day, no snorkelling or no swimming but there was an air boat ride! It was an exciting experience. The boat flied around mangroves and long grass, we even go a sighting of an alligator! I didn't take any photos while on the air boat, it was going so fast and it was so noisy! But I did take a picture of the boat... Later down the road we stopped of at Big Cypress National Preserve Boardwalk. We saw some funky tress and a few odd plants, it was very swamp like. At the end of the boardwalk was an observation platform and we came across an alligator, my dad says it was fake but me and my brother still like to say it was real. It was time to go back to our Hotel in Orlando, but before we did that we stopped off for a swim along the Gulf Coast in Sarasota and to eat some dinner at The Beach Hut who's food was to die for! The beach was so white and blue, the sand was as white as snow! We also did a bit of shell collecting :).
Day 7
Your a wizard Harry!
We, meaning my brother and I, were so excited for this day. We decided to get the two park one day ticket so we went for Universal Studios and Island Of Adventure. We picked up the tickets on they day for $130 - a lot cheaper then what websites and travel agents were selling them for. The rides not to miss in Universal Studios are definitely the Simpsons, Transformers, Despicable Me and Harry Potter. After a wonder around Diagon Alley and some butter beer we hopped on (after a 45 minute wait) the Hogwarts express over to Island Of Adventure. Here we enjoyed the other Harry Potter rides in Hogsmead, I was in tear of laughter after I screamed over a pop out skeleton. We also went on the Spiderman ride and Jurassic Park ride. We only left 3 hours for this park, which was nowhere near enough, especially because it's all positioned around a water hole so you have to walk around the whole park, you can't just cut across.
I had such an amazing trip with two of the best and funniest people ever. I am so grateful.
I hope you enjoyed these posts and found them insightful.
Have you been to Florida? What did you get up to?
