I think that, deep
down, everyone has a longing for leather fashion accessories. The smell, feel,
and just general look of the leather is second to none – because let’s be
honest, fake leather just doesn’t measure up to the real stuff! The word
‘timeless’ comes to mind; not just in terms of its longevity (it can last a
lifetime if kept in good condition), but also in the sense that it will never
go out of fashion! I love the bold but effortless statement that a leather
accessory brings to any outfit, and the quality is second to none.
In saying this,
however, there are also a plethora of ‘pleather’ accessories available in
today’s market – and by this, I mean leather that is made of plastic or some
other synthetic material (but tries to fool you into believing it is real!). I
have found that only a select few brands really live up to my expectations when
it comes to ‘the ideal leather accessory’ – brands such as Tods, who have some
wonderful collections of bags and accessories for men and women, and Smythson
(the classiest of Bond Street leather accessory retailers) really do make me
weak at the knees.
I have also recently
discovered the brand MARK/GIUSTI, which has a range of luxury leather goods accessories to
accommodate for the modern man or woman. Said to be handcrafted and originally
in Italy, I love the way every each item is individually made with the finest
attention to detail; a breath of fresh air from the mass marketed (and often
unethically sourced) leather products that are available today’s market. You
can really tell its class! Italian leather is often considered to be the finest
in the world, with the craftsmanship being a skill handed down from generation
to generation – something that the brand celebrates and incorporates into every
aspect of its products.
So if you, like me,
often find yourself dreaming of owning the perfect leather accessory, I urge
you to go for the ‘real deal’ – or even better, handmade Italian leather-
whether it be a Smythson, a MARK/GIUSTI or a Tods. There really is no substitute,
and whilst it may mean forking out a bit extra, you know that you’re getting
the kind of quality that imitation products simply do not measure up against.
Accessories are an essential part of any man or woman’s wardrobe – so why not
‘accessories in style’!
